Ep18-Free Airfare for 2 Years with this Credit Card Hack

1/17/23 - Free Airfare for 2 Years with this Credit Card Hack

In today’s episode, I’m sharing a bit more about your personal money than your business. (But hey, if you can spend a little less in your personal life…that means you don’t have to work as hard to make more in your business, right?)

Enter the free Companion pass on Southwest Airlines! (And if you’re still a bit sore at them after the 2022 holiday travel mess, you can look into Hilton’s Honors cards or Delta’s Platinum program.)

I talk about:

  • What it is

  • How you can get it

  • The effect it may (or may not) have on your credit score

  • And the difference between a Business card and the Personal card

  • How it works. Basically:

    • When you earn 135,000 qualifying points* in a calendar year, you’ll earn a Companion Pass for the following full calendar year, plus the remainder of the year in which you earned it

    • You earn it through a combination of using:

  • Business Card - Southwest Performance Card

    • 80,000 points for $199 fee and $5,000 of purchases

    • 5,000 points for your purchases

  • Personal card - Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card

    • 50,000 pts for $99 and $1,000 of purchases

    • 1,000 pts for your purchases

  • Total Points 136,000 (bonus + purchase points) = Companion Pass

  • Important notes:

    • The total cost is $300 in annual fees, but make sure you cancel before the 2nd year of annual fees

    • This only works if you pay off your credit card each month - don’t go into debt over this!

    • Don’t buy stuff you don’t need

    • The sooner in the year you can do this, the more time you have to take advantage of the savings
